The first festival was the brainchild of two students whose purpose was to bring together Trinity College and the City of Hartford. To institutionalize hip hop at Trinity College, they proposed partnering with Nomadic Wax to host a three-day festival focused on the positive aspects of hip hop culture from around the world. Kicked off by Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez, the festival was a huge success – despite rainy weather. The unique event even attracted such old school luminaries as Fab 5 Freddie and Charlie Ahern, director of the hip hop classic film Wild Style. It was hailed by XXL, FOX News, NPR and BBC World who stated, “They truly believe they can change the world through hip hop.”
