Bakari Kitwana

Journalist, activist and curator of the Rap Sessions, Bakari Kitwana is the author of the landmark 2002 book The Hip Hop Generation, which Essence called “an insightful study of post-segregation Black culture and its influence on the world.” His most recent book is Hip Hop Activism in the Obama Age, in which Kitwana tracks the work of five major national hip-hop organizations, a larger part of the force that is driving the innovative marriage between hip-hop and civic engagement—The League of Young Voters, The Hip-Hop Congress, The National Hip-Hop Political Convention, The Hip-Hop Caucus and The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network.
